The Story of BlueFiRe Once upon a time, many a seasons ago, a bright blue eyed fox was born to a vixen named Sellea. The father of the fox was a deadly assassin called Slykindra. The night was cold and starless, howling winds swirling through the Dealdie Forest. Slykindra was greatly feared by many creatures of the forest. He was the leader of a band of foxes that traveled from forest to forest, plain to plain, kingdom to kingdom, killing anything standing in his way of power. Sellea managed to get on his good side by becoing his seer and later had his cub. A bright blue eyed female fox. The night the fox was born, Sellea was killed by Slykindra and Slykindra left the cub to die. But being a strong fox, the baby lived, and was brought up by a family of badgers. The badgers called the fox BlueFiRe because of her bright blue eyes, and the never windling fire that glowed inside of her. At the age of one, BlueFiRe was old enough to live on her own and perhaps find a mate. The badgers told her of her history the night before she left. They, being good creatures, thought she should know. BlueFiRe meant a lot to them, and they meant a lot to her, so with a quick good-bye, she disappeared into the night. She left behind a small silver necklace with a heart surrounded with emeralds which had once belonged to her mother. The first day of her travels, she traveled northwest, longing to find to father that betrayed her mother and terrorized the entire forest. She had no supply pack, so she met many friends on her journey. A good hogwife named Perrywinkle gave her a supply pack and said she remebered seeing a band of foxes come this way a few seasons past. BlueFiRe knew she on the right path. The days turned into weeks, and weeks to months until one day she fell across the path of a starved grey fox. She was frightened but refused to show it. She stood quietly as the grey fox circled her. "Well, well, well. What have we here? A likely victim for the great Darklash? Hmmm....I think you shall do m'dear." His golden eyes shone into hers and he stood in front of her. "You do not know who I am and therefore I will not punish you for thy wrong impression." "Well m'beautiful butterfly, care to tell me?" he sneered in her face. "I am the daughter of Sellea and Slykindra and those who dare stand in my path shall be instantly destroyed." Darklash stopped grinning and stared at her with fear. He knew of Slykindra, his father was in his band. Darklash was left behind also to die but he lived on alone. He bowed his head. He informed her of his history and apologized, begging to be left alive. BlueFiRe asked him to join her in her quest for her father's band and to destroy every creature in it. Darklash followed her, afraid of what she would do lest he opposed. They traveled for almost a year, learning how to win battles, which plants provided food and water, and most of all about love. Love shows up in strange places. About four seasons later, they encountered the band. Darklash pretended to be wanting to join and was immediately let in. BlueFiRe followed them, never allowing herself to be seen. She would kill one at a time, until the band's numbers dropped badly. When they reached the sea, BlueFiRe was tired of waiting and spying. At night, while everybeast was asleep, she killed the sentried then proceeded into camp. Darklash immediately spotted her and went to work. He poisoned all their food supplies and put out the fire. Slykindra was immediately awake, sensing the coldness. He stared about him. Suddenly, a lighted torch was thrown and landed at his footpaws. He shreiked with surprise then woke up the camp. BlueFiRe was immediately in action. She threw herself into the band, around threescore creatures and fought viciously to get to Slykindra. Darklash attacked from the other side. The odds were bad and BlueFiRe was aware. The battle cries were heard at the edge of the forest where a group of otters lived. A young otter named Sealark woke the camp up and listened. They formed a plan. They would send one otter out to see what was happening. When Fishkill returned, he brought news of two foxes fighting a band of vermin foxes. Sealark thought for a moment then informed the otter crew that anybeast who dared to fight Slykindra could not be vermin as well. They surrounded the fight and charged at Sealark's call. The vermin band was surprised at the attack. The otters had killed almost all the band and BlueFiRe was in bad shape. She pulled herself out of the middle to find herself face to face with Slykindra. The bright blue eyes reminded Slykindra of something he saw many seasons ago. BlueFiRe spoke, her eyes glazing over. "I have waited all my life for this and it will happen. I am your daughter." Her eyes sparkled for the last time as she fell forward. A cutlass in her hand went through Slykindra, penetrating to his heart. BlueFiRe fell dead atop of him. Darklash spotted her and padded quickly over. He held her in his paws and wept. The otters finished off the band with neighboring squirrels and surrounded Darklash. A huge funeral was held for BlueFiRe the next day, and the badger family was called to come. And thus ends the story of BlueFiRe. Her mother's death and the death of many others was finally avenged. Darklash lived with the otters until old age took him to meet his love in the clouds of heaven. |
